U14 Finish Season v Oshawa

June 17th, 2012 - It was a good weekend for Markham Irish. U14 Co-ed lost to in a strong effort, U16 Red team lost a close game while the U16 Blue team dominated Oshawa's 1st team. The women won both games while the men's 3rd and 1st XV were victorious. The men's 2nd XV lost a close battle. Overall a great weekend of rugby.
May 17th, 2012 - The first Junior training night run by the men and women's senior teams was a great success. The next session is scheduled in June. Make sure you don't miss it !! Read the following testimonials:
Gents, I just wanted to write and personally thank you for last night’s practice. My son Rhys is playing on the U12 (as a 10 yr old) and this is his first experience with rugby. If he wasn’t truly sold on the sport and the club (I’m still a Sara and he wanted to play for my club)... he is now. Wow! He was immediately ‘adopted’ by a senior who nicknamed him Mini-me right off the bat. It was a fantastic idea and I thought incredibly well run. He’s really enjoyed the practices up to now but last night I think he had a glimpse and taste of what it is like to be part of a larger rugby family. Something I have told him about but is never truly describable. While initially I would have loved him to play with my club, I am very happy he is finding his ‘own’ club and place. He has already told me there is another of these practices maybe scheduled in June and that he is going for sure. It’s always been tough for me to fully describe the effect that rugby has had on my life from the time I picked up a ball in my teens during a walkabout in South Africa until now. My wife never quite understood but to hear Rhys chatter on and on last night to her, I think she is really believing that there is more to it than just pulling on a jersey and boots.
Still happy to be a Sara ... but very glad to be a Irish Rugby Dad. Thanks to all of you.
Mike
I would also like to thank everyone for including my children and making them feel very welcome. This was a great idea and my kids are already asking if we are going to do it again. The best part and the most important was having the senior players running the drills with the juniors. It was great to see the support and all the positive comments coming from them. My youngest actually said he wants to quit soccer and just play rugby. My wife, who is hesitant about our kids playing, now sees how rugby is so different from other sports. It is a family at all levels. George
