Triple Header Saturday for Markham Sr. Men

What was suppose to be a day of rain and possibly thunderstorms turned out to be one of the hotter Saturdays of the year so far. With the sun blazing down on Fletcher's Field the Markham Irish Men hosted a trio of games. First up at 10AM the Irish 3rds side hosted Buffalo in what turned out to be a fiercely competitive physical game. Unfortunately for the Irish, Buffalo came out on top when the final whistle sounded. However the game was highlighted by the break away try from up and coming youngster James mini sherry Sheridan and some massive hits from Irish debutant Alex Block. The side also featured a wide range in age gap 17 years old to 45 years young. It was a great mix of former McCormick Cup winning veterans and Youthful up and coming stars.

In the 1130AM match the Irish's 2nds side hosted Stoney Creek Camels. After an electric start seeing the Irish go up 12-0 and almost 19-0, Stoney Creek put their foot on the gas and scored 27 unanswered. For parts of the game the Irish completely dominated building phases and methodically attacking and penetrating the Stoney Creek defence. Unfortunately for the Irish they were not able to connect with that final pass multiple times which would have seen them cross the white wash at least 5 times! Highlighting the game was the opening minute try by Chris Scott who ran 60 meters to track down a booming kick from outhalf Colin Campbell Jr and touch it down for 5 points.

In the 3rd and final game of the afternoon at 1PMthe Irish 1st side also hosted the Camels. Just like the 2nds the 1st jumped out to an early lead just minutes in after a series of phases saw Joe Beare break the line and touch down under the posts. From there the game would go back and forth seeing the Camels score from a variety of Irish mistakes, and the Irish score on line breaks that were created off plays after multiple phases. The track meet came to an end when the referee blew his whistle for a final time after the Irish held up Stoney Creek in the endzone in the 80th minute. That defensive stand gave the Irish a bonus point win 45-38. The game was highlighted by a great team try which saw Alex Jordan, Gavin Howe and DJ Bott connect on a series of offloads after a great line break to then score the Irish's 7th try of the day.
