2016 Grey Cup Festival

The 104th Grey Cup is just over a month away and the Markham Irish Canadian Rugby Club is asking for your

support to help raise money for the club while enjoying some of the Grey Cup festivities!

Grey Cup Tidbit: Albert Grey, the Governor General of Canada from 1904 until 1911 donated the trophy to the Canadian Rugby Union in 1909 to recognize the top amateur rugby football team in Canada. The Balmy Beach Club has won the Grey Cup Twice.

We have our biggest fundraiser of the year coming up at the Spirit of Edmonton Grey Cup event at the Sheraton Downtown Toronto.

This is the biggest party every year where ever the Grey Cup is being held. Its legacy continues in Toronto with live bands, cheerleader performances and they need us! We participated with this event four years ago and it was a blast!

We will need all hands on deck! New, old and young!!!

This is an opportunity for the club to raise almost $10,000 in funds that will help support our efforts to provide equipment and club repairs needed to maintain a safe and fun playing environment. As a club, we will receive $10 per hour per person; we are also given all the bottle empties that are generated over the three day event. To make this event a success we will need as many volunteers as possible.

YOUNG OR OLD, EVERYONE CAN VOLUNTEER AND SUPPORT THIS EVENT

We will need those 19 years and older working as ‘venue event helpers’ assisting in various aspects of the events. Those who also have their smart serve licence are encouraged to let us know and have it handy as you may be serving at the bar.

Teams will also be appointed for handling all the empties, those under age (Jr’s)/those who can’t make the event are encouraged to sign up for this.

We will have a general meeting Saturday November 12th at 2:00pm at the club house (150 Austin Dr.) to discuss the event and go over the game plan.

If you have a shift(s) in mind that you would like to volunteer for or any other questions please contact Brian Glen at brianjfglen@gmail.com or 416-671-0259, Pat Hodgins at pjhodgins23@gmail.com or 647-298-0724 for more details and to sign up for as many shifts as possible.

It is very important that we fill these shifts in full, not just to do the job right, but as mentioned, this is money for the club.

Added Bonus: Those who work the last shift of the night will be given food and drinks when the room is cleared. We encourage those who can to double shift as I’m sure we need it.

Five ‘captains’ are required to help manage our group, anyone interested in stepping up, please raise your hand ASAP.

We will have a general meeting Saturday November 12th at 2 pm at the club house to discuss the event and go over the game plan.

A total of 50 people minimum are required Irish, this is an event we will get every year the Grey Cup is in Toronto, so let’s not let our club down.

We look forward to hearing from all of you!
